The presence of Radon may be had to tell, but it can be in a house you wish to buy or sell. It is a danger to your health. You need a home inspection to come in and do certain tests, to tell how much of it is present, and how to get rid of it. They come in handy when you are buying or selling a house, or you are in the process of building one.
For effective results, you need the test to be done at the lowest level of the house, such as the basement, play area, or workshop. You then need to determine the length of the test, and the time of the test. Tests should last more than two days. There should be no interference to the testing process.
They need to have certain equipment for such work. Home inspectors have said equipment, as they are qualified to use them. When you know what the latest equipment in that field is, you shall know which inspector is up for the task at hand.
They are either active or passive testing kits out there. The passive ones do not need electricity to work. All they need exposure to the air in the house. They are then collected and sent to a lab for analysis. These passive gadgets serve their purpose in both long and short-term testing. They are not too costly. They are also great at minimizing the negative impact of interferences to the test.
Active testing kits on the other hand need electricity to work. They have continuous radon monitors and continuous working level monitors. These measure and record the amount of radon or its decay products in the air as time goes. They are also effective at telling when there are radon level spikes. The inspectors shall then explain what those spikes mean. They are designed to point out and remove parts of the results that were spikes. They happen to be the better choice of kits.
To make sure that the results are not tampered with by the interferences, you need a device that shall not stop recording the levels as time goes. By having a motion detector around, you shall know when there was an interference. They will also point out changes in the test conditions. Proximity detectors can also tell if people walked into the testing room. Such are the factors that interfere with the results.
It is by also understanding the weather conditions during the test that you can tell how effective the results were. Ensuring the temperature is another way of telling if there was an intrusion. The windows and doors should have been kept sealed.
There should ideally be a non-interference agreement in place before an inspection begins. Such are the primary requirements for a good inspection job on the premises.
